The Bore
The bore can be kept clean with cotton or soft plastic bristle pipe cleaners. Alternatively some paper towel or a small cloth pushed through the bore with a wooden dowel does the trick. Avoid running metal objects through the bore. Aluminum is a soft metal and scratches easily.
The Tuning Joint
The tuning joint is sealed with Teflon tape. This enables smooth slide movement for tuning. If the joint loosens, simply rewrap fresh tape over existing tape or remove the tape and neatly wrap a new seal. Note, Teflon will compress so use a moderate amount of force to reassemble the head and body of the whistle after unwrapping the joint. Teflon tape can be found in the plumbing section of your local hardware store.
The Mouthpiece
For a light cleaning the mouthpiece can be removed and rinsed out with warm soapy water. Caution: do not attempt to clean the wind way with any hard or sharp objects. It will mark the surface and affect how your whistle plays. To clean the mouthpiece more thoroughly, place it in a small glass or container and fill the container with hydrogen peroxide until the entire mouthpiece is submerged. Leave over night or until the bubbling stops, then rinse the mouthpiece out with water.
