RYAN J. MACNEIL

Originally from Big Pond and now residing in Port Hood, Cape Breton, Ryan is known as a powerful yet graceful player. This accomplished musician has mastered his instruments (highland bagpipes, border pipes and whistles) and brings a unique personal flavor to his performances. Ryan’s electrifyingly upbeat playing is strongly rooted in Cape Breton’s dance-oriented tradition.
Ryan has shared the stage with many fine musicians including his aunt, Rita Mac Neil. Currently playing with Beòlach, Ryan’s skills have been showcased across Canada, US and Europe. Beòlach has received critical acclaim for both of their albums and have three ECMA nominations to their credit.
In the past several years, Ryan has become increasingly renowned as a talented composer with his tunes being performed and recorded by many musicians, both locally and abroad.
The creation of the MacNeil whistle came from combining the experience of playing a variety of wind instruments with formal technical training, machinist and carpentry training along with musical instrument technologies course. Ryan used his playing experience and practical skills to develop a whistle, which rivals any other on the market. Its strong mellow tone and easy playability make it the perfect choice for professionals and amateurs alike.
